Project Summary:

With the advent of peace in Sudan and the very urgent need of skilled personnel and artisans, ECS has made its reopening of vocational training a priority.  And since several other dioceses have already established their own training centers, a similar Centre called ‘Lay Institute for Vocational Education’ (LIVE) is to be established in Juba.  This Centre will benefit from any remaining facilities and resources of the former Lainya Vocation Training Institute (LVTI) which was formerly based in Juba but which has returned to Lainya now that peace has come.  Two training departments, Building Construction and Masonry and Carpentry and Joinery will be started.  Some income generating activities, e.g., production of building materials will be incorporated.  Outreach programs in provision of save drinking water assistance and bricklaying cooperatives will be included.

The target population is youth and young adults 15-25 years of age regardless of educational background.  Priority will be given to demobilized former child soldiers and street kids.  Length of training will depend on educational and skill background, ranging from 6 mo – 2 years.
