Project Summary:

The Episcopal Church of Sudan Diocese of Ibba was created in 1995 and inaugurated in 1996.  It is situated in  Western Equatoria state at Ibba Country and it covers a geographical area of about 250 square miles with an estimated area population of about 350,000 people out of which 69,000 are Episcopalians.  The rest of the area are of other Christian denominations.  There are 4 Archdeaconaries, 4 deaneries, 13 parishes, 21 sub-parishes and numerous spreading centers.  Ibba Diocese is under the stewardship of Rt. Rev. Levi Hassan who is assisted by 42 pastors, 172 lay readers, 243 Mothers Union members, 39 licensed evangelists, 327 youth and 423 Sunday school children.

Since the inauguration of this Diocese in 1996, it has not developed due to the advent of the 21 year old civil war between ath SPLA/M and the North Sudan Arab Government of the Sudan.  There is no infrastructures, communications facilities and means of transport.  The Bishop and all pastors, mother’s union leaders, youth leader walk on foot covering long distances for confirmation, evangelism, youth activities and outreach programs.  The Diocesan office needs a means of transport, a car to the diocesan bishop to help him and the diocesan facilitate the transportation in the area.
