Project Summary:

The dangers of HIV/AIDS are very real in Rumbek.  The city is becoming the relief center of the South because it is centrally located.  Displaced people returning home, traders from E. Africa and soldiers have all converged on Rumbek county.  Many have visited Kenya and Uganda during the war where HIV/AIDS is very evident.

Cultural taboos connected with sex are strong in South Sudan.

The goal of this project is to train twenty church counselors and twenty trainers on how to increase HIV/AIDS awareness; to furnish eleven church centers with HIV/AIDS informational materials; to organize campaigns by the Mother’s Union and youth organizations of the church to spread knowledge about HIV/AIDS disease or infection; to provide church counselors and trainers with 40 bicycles so they have transportation; to provide food and transport during training; to provide incentives for two trainers from out of the country and to provide transport for them.
