Accountability:  How will receipt of the funds be acknowledged and how will progress be reported?

The Executive Director will oversee the activities of this project.  Funds made available from US sources will be released as progress is made on the project.  It is expected that annual trips to Sudan by US funding sources to meet village leaders, visit schools and witness the educational experiences of the students will  further assure the success of the school building.  PES will also use the UNICEF model for accountability in funding projects, project inspection and verification of spending requests by indigenous NGO’s.

Project Summary:

PES hopes to build, staff and support 10-12 primary and secondary schools by 2010.  After building in Maar, the intent is to build throughout Southern Sudan.  Initial community assessments will determine if there is local commitment to build and staff the schools.  Annual costs will rise from the cost of one school in Maar as more primary and secondary schools are built.  2005-2006 cost per student is $96 and by 2010 when it is hoped to have 3000 students, cost per student will be $136.
