Third Annual AFRECS Conference 2007

The AFRECS conference was held April 13-15, 2007 at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri, where where attendees heard John Prendergast, leading activist and who gives frequent testimony before Congress; the President’s Special Envoy to Sudan, Andrew Natsios; Margaret Larom, Director of the Office of Anglican and Global Relations of the Episcopal Church; and Mr. Brian D’Silva, USAID East Africa Program Director. These differing perspectives gave needed background to Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005 and development in Sudan.  Click here for details.

 

Second Annual AFRECS Conference 2006

AFRECS held its second annual conference at the Trinity Episcopal Church in San Jose, CA, on President's Day weekend, February 17-19, 2006.  100 AFRECS members and friends heard Mark Bixler talk about his book, The Lost Boys of Sudan; the Provincial Secretary of the Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS), Rev’d Enock Tombe, spoke about post war challenges of the ECS; Michael Kevane, Ph.D., addressed the group on Economic Development in Sudan; and a negotiations consultant, Mr. Charles Barker, addressed us on his work as an ECS consultant and Peace and Reconciliation in Sudan. Inaugural Conference 2005

AFRECS held its Inaugural Conference in February 2005 at St. Paul's Church in Alexandria, VA.  130 AFRECS members from around the United States and Canada heard Michael Paget-Wilkes, Archdeacon of Warwick and chairman of the Sudan Church Association in the United Kingdom; Alfred Taban, editor of the Khartoum Monitor and correspondent for BBC Africa Service; Roger Winter, former assistant administrator of the U. S. Agency for International Development; and A. Heath Light, retired bishop of Southwestern Virginia. Click here for conference documents and information.
